Drug description

Folsafe contains a combination of L-methylfolate with pyridoxine and mecobalamin is used for prevention of Neural tube defect and manage hyperhomocysteinemia in pregnancy.Folic Acid is a key B Vitamin required by body for the repair and production of new cells; particularly during pregnancy. Folic Acid is proven to reduce the risk of NTDs and birth defects such as spina bifida and anencephaly by as much as 70% if taken at least 1 month before pregnancy. It is recommended that all women capable of becoming pregnant consume 0.4 mg of folic acid daily on an ongoing basis to prevent NTDs (primary prevention). For high risk (previous NTD-affected pregnancy) women planning a pregnancy, the recommended intake of folic acid is 4 mg daily beginning at least one month before conception and continuing through the first trimester (secondary prevention). The timing of folate supplementation is critical. As NTDs arise very early in embryonic life, supplementation needs to be started even before conception to ensure adequate blood and tissue folate levels at the time of neural tube formation. � Vitamin B12 is an essential water-soluble vitamin, it is an important nutrient for brain development and function.
